John Carruthers Dip.Surv (Otago) M.N.Z.I.S.
Director / Registered Surveyor

A licensed cadastral surveyor since 1975, John joined the firm in 1980 after working throughout the country.

Born and raised in the Wairarapa, John has extensive local knowledge and experience with land transfer surveying. He has worked on most of the residential, rural, commercial and industrial subdivisions in the region over the past twenty five years.

John’s interests include rugby and tramping.
   
   
Derek Roberts B.Surv. (Otago) M.N.Z.I.S, LCS
Director / Registered Surveyor

A registered surveyor in the region since 1999, Derek joined the firm in 2002 and brought with him an extensive skills base. Raised in the Rangitikei, Derek thrives on a wide variety of projects ranging from large scale public works to residential subdivisions.

Derek especially enjoys Wairarapa for the lifestyle the region provides for his young family. He is an established multi sport athlete and has represented New Zealand at waterskiing. He also enjoys aviation, off road touring and home improvement.
   
   
Eric Dodd B.Surv. (Otago) M.N.Z.I.S.
Registered Surveyor

A registered surveyor since 1994, Eric brought to the firm in 1999 experience in civil engineering, construction and surveying. Born in Edinburgh, Eric moved to New Zealand in 1981 and has worked on a variety of projects throughout the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Eric’s interests include tramping, cross country running, astronomy and his Martinborough winery.

Project Engineer

Warwick brings to the company an enviable portfolio of skills and experience with more than 20 years in the Wairarapa region. Along with project management and civil engineering of subdivisions and land development projects, “bridges, tunnels and roads” are his specialties.

   
   
Kereana Sims DipAdvEng DipEng (Civil)
Engineering Technician

Kereana is an engineering technician with experience working in New Zealand and Australia. Specialising in project management, Kereana has worked on many of the major infrastructural projects over the past 15 years.An essential component of her work is designing roading and services for land development projects and working with council staff, engineers and contractors to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
   
   
Rory Hullena
Technician

Rory joined the firm in 2005 and thrives on the challenges involved in his line of work. Operating the latest GPS and surveying technology still requires him to access even the most remote locations in order to assess land suitable for development.

Rory is a talented musician on a variety of instruments.
   
   
Hayden Spierling
Technician

Hayden joined the firm in 2001 and has since been an integral part of our team as a technician. Commonly seen in the region with his GPS unit and bright reflective gear, Hayden's can-do approach to fieldwork and his problem solving ability is an important part to achieiving client's aspirations.

Hayden is a high performance sportsman and has achieved at the highest levels in many sports. He returned to the firm in 2005 after playing county cricket in England.

Survey Technician

When Annie joined the firm in 2003 she brought with her over ten years of experience in survey technology in New Zealand and South Africa. She specializes in computer aided design and performs most of the offsite cadastral functions for the surveyors in our team.

Married to an architectural technologist, Mark, and a mother of two, Annie is an avid cyclist, and enjoys off road touring and tramping - which is why they chose to move to New Zealand from Cape Town in 2001.
   
   
Elizabeth Burge BRS (Lincoln) C.RMA
Planner / Commissioner

Specializing in planning and resource management, Elizabeth brought with her essential skills when she joined the firm in 2009. With over 15 years in the local industry, Elizabeth has experience working for the regional council and as a commissioner.

Elizabeth chose to work for Tomlinson & Carruthers for the wide variety of work where she has the opportunity to represent clients throughout the planning and implementation process.
